COWBOY SHOOT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: We are taking a different approach to the indoor match this year – we are going to mimic a standard cowboy match as much as possible.
Illowa Irregulars Annual Indoor Match and Swap Meet is scheduled for March 19, 2023. Come on out and shake some of that winter rust off at the indoor match. Shooting? Bring your pistols, rifle, and some ammo. (Sorry, no shotguns or BP of any type.) Have a few swap items? Bring them. Need a few swap items? Come take a look. FYI – Milan Rifle Club recently installed a new state-of-the-art ventilation system which helps ensure a safe indoor shooting environment.
We will shoot standard cowboy stages you’d see in a typical cowboy match using Pistols and rifles. Holsters are be permitted. Only standard cowboy guns can be used (sorry, no black powder or shotguns). 22’s are OK.
While we are still working out the details, you can expect to shoot at least three 11×17 paper targets with your pistol and with your rifle during each stage. Depending on the number of shooters and how quickly we’re able to move through the stages, you can expect to shoot three to four stages. The TO will give the beep and away you go. Each stage will be timed using our standard timers and times will be recorded. Misses will be counted. (Plan for a four-stage round count of 40 pistol and 40 rifle rounds.)
There will be a few “special” rules due to the indoor nature of the match, which will be reviewed during the Safety Meeting. Like any regular match, all shooters must be present at the Safety Meeting in order the participate in the match. See the schedule below.
SWAP MEET: The SwapMeet is your chance to trade the stuff (guns, gear, and clothes) you no longer need and buy different guns, gear, and clothes that you can’t live without. There are tables available to display items, but they are on a first come, first serve basis. Historically, the tables are taken early. If you really want a table, you should be there at or shortly after 8:00 a.m.
COST: The cost to shoot is $5. There is no charge for the swap meet.
Schedule is as follows:
DOORS OPEN: The doors will open at 8:00 a.m.
SWAP MEET: Tables may be set up any time after 8:00 a.m. with swap meet sales beginning at any time after that. Tables are on a first come, first serve basis.
SAFETY MEETING: 9:45 a.m. Guns must be in gun cases while waiting your turn to shoot. Please bring your own cases. As always, eye and hearing protection is required. Loading, unloading, and movement rules will be discussed during the safety meeting.
INDOOR SHOOT: The shoot will start at 10:00 a.m. The end time is a little difficult to predict at this time. See the match description above.
ADVANCE REGISTRATION: We are asking that anyone who is planning to shoot at the Indoor Match email us and let us know just so we have an idea of what to expect. Click here to send a registration email. You can also send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org .
Please include your name and how many shooters will be with you. We won’t hold you to this. If you make it, great; if not that’s OK too. We’re just trying to get a sense of how many people plan to attend. Having said that, if you don’t register in advance but want to come, you’re still welcome.
