The 2023 SASS Illinois State Championship, scheduled from August 18-20, 2023, is growing inexorably closer. Things are falling into place nicely: Stages are coming together, targets are purchased and upgraded, some of the awards are ordered, name badges designed, facilities rented, meals planned, etc., etc., etc.
We also recently completed a 2023 State Championship promotional video (3 mins). Click here or on the image below to view it.
If you’re looking for something to do in mid-August, consider registering for the 2023 Illinois State Championship. We’re conveniently located near the Quad Cities along the Illinois/Iowa border, at the intersections of I-80 and I-74, with plenty of nearby hotels and restaurants available within just a few minutes’ drive.
We’ve a shooter-friendly range featuring a paved central path through the cowboy town, berms between each bay (you get your brass back), covered Loading and Unloading tables at every stage, plenty of shade, as well as car ports at each stage to protect shooters from the sun and rain while waiting.
We’ll shoot Warm-up and Side Matches on Friday, followed by two days of exciting cowboy action shooting competition on Saturday and Sunday, an optional Saturday evening Riverboat dinner cruise about the Celebration Belle on the Mississippi, ending with a catered awards banquet at a nearby, air-conditioned community center.
A New Award: We’re also planning to introduce an exciting new award for the “record books” – the Illinois State Record Holder award. We will recognize one Illinois resident shooter in each category who shoots the state record stage the fastest as holding the State Record. That shooter will hold the State Record until their time is bested at a future State Championship. What makes this interesting is that this stage is part of the match. In other words, each shooter gets one chance, and one chance only to set the record. There will be surprises. If you’re not from Illinois, don’t’ worry, we’re using this same stage to establish the Illowa Irregular Club Record Award. This award will go to one shooter in each category (regardless of state residence) who shoots the state record stage the fastest as holding the Illowa Irregular Club Record. They, too, will hold the Club Record until it is bested at a future club match. To our knowledge, these awards have never been given elsewhere, ever.
Registration: We are now offering two ways to register – our traditional printed/mailed paper form AND our new online form.
