Illowa Irregulars held our second match of the year – Sunday, May 15, 2022. It was a really nice day, with a smattering of light rain here and there. Rootin Tootin crafted six fun-to-shoot stages.
Congratulations to JW James and Daisy Ann for taking home top cowboy and cowgirl honors, and to our 7 clean shooters – Wicker Nash, Tulsa Tex, Daisy Ann, Badlands Charlie, Grumpy, and Montana Slim.

Illowa Irregulars’ first match of the year was held Sunday, April 3, 2022. It was a “Beautiful Sunday.” Justice James Newton put together a great mix of stages. Congratulations to Asleep At The Wheel and Turkey Legs for taking home top cowboy and cowgirl honors, and to our 5 clean shooters – Daisy Ann, Logsplitter Chris, Parnelly Pete, Justice James Newton, and Grumpy.

Count Sandor submitted his Territorial Governor’s Report at the January 16, 2022, Annual Cowboy Club meeting. The report included updates concerning recent changes to the SASS Shooter’s Handbook. The changes are summarized in the document below, but include the following points:
The addition of an 85+ shooting category “El Rey/La Reina;”
Defining “trigger bouncing” with a determination that it’s use in pocket pistol side matches is illegal;
The deletion of the terms Chief Range Officer, CRO, and CRO/TO;
The addition of malfunctioning/squib handling procedures; and,
Two newly approved firearm modifications.

1. Who’s Coming List & Interesting Match Facts: Click here to see the 2022 Illinois Championship Who’s Coming list. Alternatively, you can find a link to the list by clicking on the Who’s Coming link at the top of Illowa Irregulars’ Homepage.
If you’ve not done so already, and particularly if you are from Illinois and want to guarantee a spot in our state’s Championship, take a moment and submit your registration soon. 2. RO1 & RO Refresher Course: Illowa Irregulars Cowboy Action Shooting Club is sponsoring an RO1 course scheduled for 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., January 22, 2022, at the Milan Rifle Club indoor range. The course is limited to the first 25 people to sign up. As of today, we have 6 slots remaining. If you need an RO1 or Refresher Course, here’s your chance.
Course instructors are Flyin’ Shootist and Turkey Legs. The cost is $15 for RO1 and $10 for Refresher courses, payable on site. The SASS ROI Course handbook will be provided. Please bring pencil and paper for note taking. (We included an estimated end time, but that is just a best guess.)
The course is designed to help attendees interpret and understand the SASS Handbook’s safety rules. This course also qualifies as a Refresher Course for current RO1’s. SASS members who receive this Range Operations Basic Safety Course training will be awarded a SASS pin as evidence of satisfactory course completion. If you are interested, follow these steps:

Enter your name, alias, and email address in the form, and indicate if this is your first RO1 course or a Refresher Course in the comment section at the top (see second image below); then

3. Iron Cowboy Match: The Iron Cowboy Match is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. January 29th. As always, we’ll be keeping an eye on the weather. A wood fire will be provided free of charge. Per club policy, match cancellations due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances will be announced no later than Noon the day before the match. If no announcement is made, the match will be held. Cancellation notices will be published on our Blog page. Check the website.
4. Setup for the Iron Cowboy Match: Match setup is scheduled for 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Friday January 28th. Note the time – it’s quite different from normal. A little help is always appreciated.
With that, as we open a new Chapter in our lives – Chapter 2022 – let’s do what we can to make it a very good year.
