2026 State Championship Side Match Information

After the last post someone asked about the Side Matches. Well, you ask – we answer.

The extensive list of side matches, some of which are only found at Illowa Irregulars, are copied below. Click here to download the list if you would like to keep a hard copy. The match book provided at check-in will also include the list of side matches.

COWBOY ACTION SIDE MATCHES – FRIDAY, JULY 15, Noon – 4PM

All side matches will be timed with misses adding 5 seconds to raw time. Fastest time wins. Awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday. Bring lots of ammo and have fun.

All Pistol events will be held on Stage 4

SPEED PISTOL – You’ll need 2 revolvers and 10 rounds for two separate Nevada Sweeps on three targets. Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female in both Smokeless and Black Powder.

POCKET PISTOL – You’ll need your Pocket Pistol and 5 rounds for a Nevada Sweep on three targets. Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female in both Smokeless and Black Powder.

DERRINGER – Bring your derringer and 4 rounds for two separate double taps on 1 target. Reload off the clock. Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female in both Smokeless and Black Powder.

All Shotgun Events Except Augustus’s Revenge To Be held On Stage 8

RUNING BUFFALO – Rifle loaded with ten rounds on table. Release and engage moving target. Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female in both Smokeless and Black Powder.

SPEED SHOTGUN – You’ll need your shotgun and 6 shells to shoot 6 knockdown targets. Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female for ‘87/’97 and SXS in both Smokeless and Black Powder.

SHOTGUN STAR – Bring your shotgun and 6 shells. Shoot the plate and 5 breakable targets. ‘87/’97 will be stoked with round in chamber. SXS will be open, empty and in hands. Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female for ‘87/’97 and SXS in both Smokeless and Black Powder.

ANNIE OAKLEY’S SHOTGUN – Three to five shooters competing at a time. First shooter engages flying bird. A hit – shooters rotate one position. A miss – second shooter must engage bird. Second shooters hits – first shooter is out. Second shooter misses – third shooter may engage. Third shooter hits – first and second shooters are out. Further details at event location. Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female.

AUGUSTINA’S (Augie’s) REVENGE –  TBD  Two shooters team up to cut a board.  Fastest team to cut the board wins.  Misses are wasted ammo.  Awards for 1st and 2nd places for male, female and mixed teams.

All Long Range Events will be Held on the Bench Rest Range on the turn at the bottom of the hill

LONG RANGE BUFFALO RIFLE – Bring your single shot rifle and ten rounds.  Five shots each on two targets at 185 yards.  Most hits win with time as a tie breaker.  Shooting sticks allowed.  Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female in both Smokeless and Black Powder.

LONG RANGE MAIN MATCH RIFLE – Bring your main match rifle and ten rounds.  Five shots each on two targets at 100 yards.  Most hits win with time as a tie breaker.  Awards for 1st and 2nd places for Male and Female in both Smokeless and Black Powder.
