Sunday April 21 Cowboy Match Update

Saturday, April 20 Setup: We’ll be heading out Saturday April 20 to set up for our Sunday, April 21 match. Setup begins at 9:00 a.m. Bring your work gloves.

Sunday, April 21 Match: The weather forecast as of today is calling for generally sunny skies, with temperatures of about 40 at Registration, 45 at match start time, and about 50 at its conclusion. All in all, pretty seasonal. It’ll be a great day for an early season match.

Stages: Badlands Charlie put together 6 interesting and fun stages for us this weekend. Click here or the download button below to download them.

Lunch: The St. Jude’s ladies plan on being at the range to serve some food, chips, and soda to all the hungry cowboys and cowgirls. All proceeds go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Illowa Irregulars purchased a new grill which will get its first use.

May Calendar: We’ve a couple of special May events for you to consider.

May Match- Special Joint Cowboy and NCOWS Match

As a special treat, we’ve invited our friends from NCOWS to join us Sunday, May 19th for our regular monthly May match where we’ll be offering:

  • a traditional 6-stage cowboy match with targets set at our traditional 12′ pistol and 30′ rifle distancesand,
    • However, if you’re shooting SASS-legal guns and want to shoot the 30’/60′ targets you may do so by signing up to shoot in the newly created Open Range category at registration. Cowboys shooting in the Open Range category will shoot all 6 stages but do so at the 30’/60′ targets. Open Range will be scored as its own category. Want a little extra challenge? Here it is.
  • a 5-stage NCOWS-like match which will include 30′ pistol and 60′ rifle targets for our NCOWS guests. We’re also likely to use a couple of smaller than normal targets on those 60′ targets.
    • We’re offering 2-gun, 3-gun, and 4-gun NCOWS categories for NCOWS shooters.
    • Non-NCOWS shooters are encouraged to shoot this special match. However, you must comply with NCOWS gun requirements which are too complicated for me to describe here other than to say it’s a certainty that 98% of our SASS-legal guns don’t meet them. Email us if you need more information.

May Buffalo Shoot

As a reminder, we are holding our first Buffalo Shoot on Saturday May 18, the day before the Sunday cowboy match described above. For more information on the Buffalo Shoot click here. While not required, if you plan to shoot the Buffalo match, please consider registering in advance so we have some idea of how many people plan to come.

What does a Friday Evening Cigar Night and a Gluten-free Lunch have in Common?

Watch the video below to see/hear the answer to this riddle. For those that want a hint, keep reading.

Illowa Irregulars are excited to announce two new additions to the 2024 Illinois State Championship match:

  1. A Friday evening Cigar Night; and,
  2. A Gluten-free Lunch option on Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17.

Cigar Night:  The Cigar Night will be held Friday night in the newly built small-bore benchrest building located directly across from the registration building.  For those so inclined, it’ll be a nice way to relax on a late summer evening after a day of warm-up and Side matches.

Cigar Social, a local cigar shop, will have premium cigars available for purchase.  Bring your own drink and chairs.  We’re not quite sure of the times yet, but we’re thinking in the area of 6:30 to 7:00 for a start and a 9:00 to 9:30 end time.  We’ll publish the official times in the Event Program.

Gluten-free Lunch Option:  We are pleased to announce we are now offering a Gluten-free option for our Friday and Saturday range lunches for those that need/want a GF option.

As we did last year, we’ve arranged for a caterer serve lunch on the range on Friday and Saturday.  They will be serving the same menu as last year:  A Pulled pork, meatball, or chicken wrap sandwich, a side, and a drink for $10, payable at the booth upon ordering.  However, this meal poses a challenge for the gluten intolerant.  This special email is to let you know we have arranged to offer a Gluten-free Chicken Ceasar Salad and a drink at a cost of $15 per meal on Friday and Saturday for those that would like a gluten-free option.

IMPORTANT:  Unlike the regular menu which is paid for at the vendor’s booth when ordering the meal, the Gluten-free Chicken Ceasar Salad REQUIRES advance order and payment using a form on our website.  CLICK HERE TO ORDER YOUR GLUTEN-FREE LUNCH ON FRIDAY AUGUST 16 OR SATURDAY, AUGUST 17.  Orders must be placed by the end of the day, July 31st, 2024.  Please note, there will be no refunds.  Be sure to read the details on the order form.

Happy Trails,
Popcorn Kelly

PS.  No special orders for GF options are necessary for the Awards Banquet as there are several meal items that are naturally GF.

New Cowboy Category for May Match – Open Range

If you’re shooting SASS-legal guns but want to shoot the 6-stage cowboy match at the 30’/60′ targets you may do so by signing up to shoot in the newly created Open Range category at registration. Cowboys shooting in the Open Range category will shoot the NCOWS targets set at 30’/60′ across all 6 stages but will do so as part of our traditional 6-stage cowboy match. Open Range will be scored as its own category. Want a little extra challenge? Here it is.
