Important Update Concerning the Sunday, March 21st Indoor Shoot

Just a quick note to convey some important information about the Indoor Shoot scheduled for March 21st.

  • Due to the shortage of shooting supplies, there will be NO organized Indoor Match on the 21st;
    • However, anyone that wants to bring their pistols and rifles and shoot some rounds is welcome to do so;
  • The Swap Meet and Potluck will still be held as scheduled.

Feel free to bring out all those cowboy items (and other stuff too) that you have sitting around that you never use anymore for the SWAP MEET.  It just might be something someone else just can’t live without. This year we will have some of Preemption Judge’s shooting and reloading accessories.

We will still be having a POTLUCK that day so, if you are so inclined, bring out your favorite dish to share with everyone.  There is electricity for plugging in crock pots and there is a microwave that can be used to heat things up.  If you can’t bring a dish but would like to eat, there will be a bucket for donations (all of which will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital).

See the Winter Update post for more Swap Meet and Potluck details.

EOT 2021 – Who’s Going?

SASS released the final list of the 500 people registered for EOT 2021. As you know, EOT will be held East of the Mississippi (Paradise Pass in Indiana) for the first time. Needless to say, this generated unprecedented interest in many cowboys and cowgirls in the Midwest, East, and South who historically found New Mexico just a bit too far away (Phoenix will be even farther). SASS exceeded the 500 shooter limit in just a few hours.

Here is the list of Iowa and Illinois cowboys/girls who made it on the Final list.: 9 Iowans and 39 from Illinois, many of which frequent Camden Mills. There are a few other recognizable and deserving names on the waiting list. Let’s hope they make it.

It’s also interesting to look at attendance from an East of the Mississippi/West of the Mississippi perspective. As you can see in the table below, just over 2/3’s of the registrants live in states East of the Mississippi.

The table to the right shows the breakdown by state. A closer look shows that 4 of the top 5, and 8 of the top 10 states in terms of number of registrants are from states East of the Mississippi, with Indiana tied with Texas for having the most participants.

Congratulations to the Illowa Irregulars and those that shoot with us on making the Final list. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of tales told, some taller than others.

Illowa Irregulars season will begin soon. Keep us in mind when planning your monthly shoots, and be sure to put some ammo back for Fall Round-Up scheduled for September 24-26, 2021.

FRU ’21 Video Teaser #4: Spin Your Chair Around

Spring is just around the corner and soon, we’ll be back on the range.  This also means we’ll be planning our shooting season soon.  As you do, keep Illowa Irregulars’ Fall Round-Up 2021 in mind.

Here is the fourth installment of our FRU ’21 Video Teaser series. If you’ve not seen the previous teasers start with the Illowa Irregulars Christmas message, then view Teasers #2 and #3.  Collectively, these videos will give you a sense of Fall Round-Up 2021’s overall theme, some of the stages, and perhaps even an opening line or two. The suspense is starting to build, and some of our best teasers have yet to be published.

As you watch the videos, consider how what your seeing in the scene could be incorporated into the stage. But, that part will remain a secret – you’ll just have to shoot it to find out.

Be sure to mark your calendars, put back a little ammo if it’s scarce, then join us in Fall Round-Up 2021.  You’ll be glad you did.

While you’re on our website, be sure to sign up to receive email notices of future video teasers immediately upon release by completing the Follow Blog Via Email box in the lower right portion of our home page (see image below).  Feel free to share this with your friends and family, and post it on Facebook, etc., and encourage them sign up on our club’s website and/or our Illowa Irregulars Facebook page to receive information related to our club activities.

Happy Trails and we’ll see you soon.  Enjoy Video Teaser #4.

Illowa Irregulars Winter Update

Hello Cowboys……..

Hope you all wintered well.  It’s time to start thinking about our new shooting season. Below are upcoming dates in March and early April to kick off the new season…….

  • March 21st……….Cowboy indoor match and swap meet starting at 8:00 am.  Tables are available on a first come first serve basis. The balance of John Millers equipment. reloading supplies, tools and misc. cleaning will be available as well. Come find that thing you can’t live without or have needed for years.
  • Friday April 2nd will be our first Cowboy practice starting at 10:00 am, weather permitting
  • Saturday April 3rd will be Cowboy range cleanup day in the town………

Our INDOOR SHOOT is Sunday the 21st of March. It will be held on the 26-yard indoor range at the Milan Rifle Club.  The entire shooting sequence calls for a total of 60 rounds per time shot (35 pistol and 25 rifle) – no shotgun. You can shoot through as many times as you want or as many times as time permits (we will start shooting at 10:00 am and usually go until about 3:00 pm if there are still shooters wanting to shoot).  This year we are introducing a .22 division as a way to get new shooters interested in the sport without having to reload. The cost is $5 for the first time through and $3 for any reshoots. This is a good opportunity to dust off the guns after a long winter.

This get-together is also a SWAP MEET – no reservations required for a table but you should be there by no later than 8:00 am if you want to grab a table because they go quick.  Feel free to bring out all those cowboy items (and other stuff too) that you have sitting around that you never use anymore.  It just might be something someone else just can’t live without. This year we will have some of Preemption Judge’s shooting and reloading accessories.

We will also be having a POTLUCK that day so, if you are so inclined, bring out your favorite dish to share with everyone.  There is electricity for plugging in crock pots and there is a microwave that can be used to heat things up.  If you can’t bring a dish but would like to eat, there will be a bucket for donations (all of which will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital).  But please bring something if you can as we need to have enough food to feed everybody. We will have plates, silverware, and napkins. Coffee will be provided. Smilin D is the POTLUCK coordinator. Contact her at (309) 236-8944 or djmmfour@gmail.com to let her know what you are bringing or if you have questions”

FYI……..We are also thinking about offering, on a month by month basis, 3 additional classes and reduced stages to help people participate that are faced with limited ammo for the season. These will only be available as long as there are shortages and only at the club level shoots, excluding Fall Roundup.

  • A 22cal. open class using pistols and rifle, and normal shotgun
  • A Club Detective class with single pistol and 5 round rifle, and normal shotgun
  • John Wayne class with 1 pistol 5 rifle no shotgun
  • Main match 5 Stages instead of 6
  • Wednesday and Friday practices will have flex stages per shooter. “shoot as many as 5 or as few as you wish” to manage your ammo.

Hope to see you all soon………..RT
